Peter Horn (NI) presents the latest news34 people attended the first meeting of the Cambridge LabVIEW User Group (CLUG) which was held at the Trinity Centre in Cambridge on 4th June 2008.  The majority of attendees classed their LabVIEW knowledge as 'Intermediate' but there were also a few Beginners and several Advanced and Expert programmers.  There was representation from a good cross-section of the industries in and around Cambridge including Industrial, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, Electronics, Instrumentation and Research.

Following an informal buffet lunch, Peter Horn gave a presentation on Event Driven Programming which was followed by a more advanced review of Dynamic Registration of Events by Peter Fitzgerald.  The meeting was deliberately structured to allow plenty of time for questions and open discussion as well as for attendees to meet and talk to one another about shared issues, challenges and successes.  The informal atmosphere was appreciated by all.

By general consensus, the CLUG will meet on a quarterly basis with the next session planned for September / October (date to be confirmed).  There were lots of suggestions for topics for future meetings and we will use the most popular choice as the basis for the next session.

Some comments from those who attended:

"Found it very informative and raised my experience of LabVIEW"

"Discussion was nice and relaxed"

"Good spectrum of experience level of people attending"

"It felt quite good, some demos weren't perfect but not really an issue.  Very enjoyable"

"Advanced talk was very useful"

"Open forum was excellent & raised very interesting issues"

"Good opportunity to meet other LabVIEW programmers and to discuss programming styles"
