Anyone hiring Graduate Electronic Engineer? 3 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi my names David Barr I am currently a student at Loughborough university. I was wondering if any knew of any companies that might want to employee a graduate student with strong LabVIEW skill and test stand experience in approximately 6 months time (i graduate summer 2010).

Labview Experience

I have been using LabVIEW for three years now. I originally start using LabVIEW during my year in industry at Intel. During the course of the year, I help characters a dual RF tuner using LabVIEW and TestStand. I also had an individual project to create an ADC suite. This involved communicating to the DUT using I2C, talking to multiple pieces of bench hardware using GBIP and communicating to a custom-built precision power supply using SPI. The most complex hardware I have had to drive was a yokogawa mixed signal scope.

In my last two year at University I have i have used LabVIEW in three major projects:

Sat-Nav system This project involved creating a small Vi that could take someone from point A to B and every time a corner approached to flash light on a piece of hardware. To make the project more interesting my group record someone moving around inside a pc game then linked the video to the movement on the map. This meant on our dashboard vi the user of the system could see where they were going. I received 97% for that module and a NI sponsored award.

Dragan fly project This project involved making a dragonfly (its similar to a remote control helicopter) hover autonomously. In this group, we used LabVIEW for debugging purposes to be able to change values in the assembly code that was running on a basic stamp device. Again, the group did very well mark wise and got 85%+ for the module.

Environment mapping using multiple robotsThis is my final year project I am using LabVIEW to drive three robot each equipped with low cost sensor and getting them to coordinator with each other to map and unknown environment. The final data will be displayed in a 3D model form using the 3D mesh picture controls.

TestStand

My experience with TestStand is purely from my year in industry. I learnt how to run pre made test routines and how to debug them. Sadly I ever had the opportunity to create a test routine from scratch.

Well that sums up my Labview and teststand skills i am also experience fair number of other programming languages but LabVIEW is my fair my strongest asset.

Many thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the post. It's always good to hear about new engineers graduating from University with LabVIEW skills.

Did you specifically want a job in the Cambridge region? I know of a couple of companies and can pass your details on when opportunities come up.

Have you spoken to the local NI Field Engineer for Loughborough? Rob Lee looks after that area and would be a good person to keep in touch with as he may know people in that area.

Please feel free to send me your contact details and any relevant information, I'll be happy to put you in touch with anyone who's looking for a graduate LabVIEW engineer.

My email address is peter.horn@ni.com
